So instead of #ThrowBackThursday i’ve decided to expose you to my own little ritual. Let’s make it viral 😉 #TREATYOURSELFTHURSDAY is a day I decide to try something new for the old tastebuds. This is valuable as I am a creature of habit and get pretty complacent with my diet. Nutrition should be nourishing in more ways than one…not just physically but holistically. It’s bringing yoga’s emphasis on experience to your plate (or bowl).
This morning I opened the fridge to seek out some hidden treasures and this delightful smoothie came to be. Vitamix for the win!
Apple Embrace Smoothie:
1 med-large organic gala apple
1 C unflavored almond milk
2T nut butter (I used organic and unsweetened peanut because I was out of almond but if you are cleansing or have sensitivities stand clear of peanuts)
2 handfuls of organic spinach/green mix of choice
1 strip of Emerald Cove Pacific Kombu– or other non-gmo premium dried seaweed (Thanks to my teacher’s suggestion I cook with this all the time. You don’t taste it at all but it is a natural flavor enhancer and aids in the digestion of certain proteins. Seaweed is also rich in anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals. It’s a superfood IMO)
Organic Maple Syrup to taste
Cinnamon to taste ( I found this vietnamese fancy cinnamon at Penzey’s in Cameron Village that i’m in love with)
Options I didn’t have but might include in the future:
a hint of sea salt
1/2 Medium avacado for extra healthy fats
Coconut Oil (if you have no super cold or frozen ingredients in your blender- as that will make it chunky in an unpleasant way)
Chia seeds for extra protein
Just Mix together until blended throughout and pour into your prettiest cup for consumption. Enjoy with a glass of lemon water and a nicely set table. Voila.
